Rules and sources

  • An Etsy listing title is at most 140 characters; Filizly applies the same limit when it writes a title to Etsy.
  • The 40-character threshold isn’t an Etsy rule; it’s Filizly’s suggestion rule: it prepares a suggestion for shorter titles.
  • Repeats are counted ignoring upper/lower case; single-letter words and symbols aren’t counted. The tool only counts; it makes no claim about how repeats affect search.

How are characters counted?

Every character counts as one, including spaces and punctuation; spaces at the start and end aren’t counted. It’s the same count Filizly uses when it writes a title to Etsy.

Why the first 40 characters?

Filizly treats titles shorter than 40 characters as short and suggests a more descriptive one. It’s not an Etsy rule; it’s a reminder to let the start of your title say what the product is.
